Silver Soviet Amber Ring

Two ring posts in a row? With all the attention being paid to Kate Middleton’s engagement ring, why not?

This ring was made in the Soviet Union sometime between the end of WWII and the Fall of the Berlin Wall (I can tell by the hammer and sickle hallmarks) . I like to think that somebody smuggled it with them as they made a daring escape from behind the Iron Curtain. It has a chip in it, so maybe that happened while they were digging under a barbed wire fence or something.

I also like it’s design. I imagine that it was made by an aged designer who had their heyday during the constructivist era of the 20s and 30s. And even though styles had changed, they still liked to work geometric shapes into their jewels.
