How to Care for Your Vintage Jewellery Part 2: Divide and Conquer

One of the simplest ways to keep your bijoux looking shiny and like new is to store it properly. So, if you can, keep your jewellery in its original boxes or bags.

Even in a jewellery box, gems can bump up against one another, causing sratches, dings and dents. Of course, original packaging takes up a lot of room. And if you’ve inherited an item or if, like me, you get a lot of your accessories at thrift shops, the jewel may have become seperated from it’s box. So here are some ways to wrap up your baubles:
1. Find a jewellery box with compartments. The vintage earring caddy pictured above has tiny cubbies that only hold one pair of earrings each. For larger pieces, I’ve seen people use tackle boxes.
2. Bag it up. Craft stores sell little zip lock baggies that can hold individual items. If you want to splurge, they also sell velvety drawstring bags.
3. The lint-free polishing cloths that some hotels leave out as shoe polish cloths make the best jewellery bags.
