I Love Hardly — Pass It On!

Perusing my very fashionable friend Samra’s Facebook status today. She wrote that is loving Hardly — an online magazine for teens.

Turns out that one of the co-editors, Laura deCarufel, is a colleague from my St. Joe’s days (she’s also the editor-in-chief of Torontoist‘s The Style Notebook). Although I haven’t seen her in ages, Laura is a whip smart woman with awesome, unjaded, style. And reading through the debut issue took me back to the good times talking about art, fashion and whatever. So I’m not surprised that Hardly is a lively publication that aims to inspire the young ladies to set their own trends, not follow them.

I wouldn’t be the first to compare Hardly to Sassy. As you know, I was a big fan. One time I was interviewing Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. Gordon had just guest edited an issue of Sassy, so I had to mention my fandom. As I recall, Gordon said something along the lines of “It’s probably not right for grown women to love a magazine for teens.” And here I am, 15 years later and I, like Samra, love Hardly.
